About the Author: I'm an artist at heart, always feeling creative. I fell in love with social networking and social media years ago when I was introduced to Twitter and it grew into a love affair when I created my website and had to learn to optimize my site, and market myself online. Now I like to share what I've learned over the years with my friends both old and new. Sometimes I might have a snarky, "Oh No She Didn't" attitude, sometimes I might have a comedic sense of humor, but regardless of the view take, I hope you will enjoy what I write.

Don’t Want to Share SO MUCH Info with Apps on Facebook?

What Are Facebook Apps?

apps

If you’ve been on Facebook for any length of time, chances are you’ve installed (or been tempted to install) a third party application such as Farmville, Klout, or Skype, just to name a few.  The problem with these apps is they want so much information from you.  When they install, they not only want access to your account, but they want you to agree to be able to make posts on your timeline or wall, AS YOU!  Well guess what?!  You don’t always have to allow these apps to do that!  That’s right, you might be able change that setting.

Installed Apps Getting You Down?

In the video posted below,  you will see exactly what information you can withhold, and how you can remove access you’ve already granted to these apps.

If you learned something new watching this video, there are more like this one peppered throughout my site.  Kick off your shoes and stay awhile!  If you liked it, let me know by writing a review on my Facebook fan page.  If you’d like another question answered, you can post that on my fan page too!  Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

This is great, Knikkolette. I often get halfway through allowing access only to cancel it because it is asking me to allow it to be a Mini Me, tweet for me, etc. Thanks for the info!

Glad you liked it Jayna. Before I realized you could modify the apps once they were installed, there were many I would not install. Thanks for reading & commenting! :)

Great information here. I periodically will go in and clean up any apps I am not using but I did not think about some of what you touched on here.

    Knikkolette,

Facebook Apps will certainly keep people hopping. I feel that Facebook could have thought things through a bit more before enabling their apps program. it’s just simply sophomoric.

But the apps will give us all the groovy access in the future, and Facebook is making strides to be frictionless.

I do a cleaning house a couple times per year and just shed apps I’m not using, and update my settings. Handy to be able to see what I’ve already submitted! :)

    Thanks for sharing,

Thanks for your feedback Keri, I agree, Facebook could definitely have thought things through. Thanks again for taking the time to post, I really value your opinion. :)

    Thanks for sharing Knikkolette.

Many Facebook users allow apps to access their information without knowing the edit settings can be changed, so this run through will be really handy.

I’m off to share it on my own page now! :)

  5. Thanks for sharing with us Knikkolette! Privacy settings is very important to understand. I think the average user don’t have a clue about this, and how easy it is to get exploited. Important to clean the closet sometimes. :)

  8. FB apps are fun but can be invasive.

You know the reason I got into facebook to start with and away from myspae was because fb was so much simpler with less clutter but thats just not the case anymore!

Yes, unfortunately, once businesses learn there’s a way to make money on a social media platform, there’s going to be clutter. One way to avoid the “clutter” is to use lists. Group your favorite people and follow those streams.

    This is extremely helpful, Knikkolette!

It can be quite invasive how much information these Apps are actually recovering from our profile. I had no idea we could manage what they recovered from our timelines. I will certainly be making some changes today, that’s for sure.

Thanks for the handy tips! And it’s always a pleasure to hear you. Great video! ;)

So glad the video was helpful Deeone. I agree, some of these apps go a bit “overboard” with the information they request and what they want to do with our accounts. :)
